Built for the badlands and the prairie

Hot summers, cold winters, hail. What a roof in the valley has to take.

Drumheller sits in the badlands of the Red Deer River valley, with a semi-arid climate of hot summers and very cold winters, and the prairie towns around it get the same summer hail as the rest of Alberta. Here is what an Interlock® aluminum roof does about that, and where its limits are.

Heat

Hot, dry summers

Drumheller's climate is semi-arid, with hot summers in the valley. Years of sun and heat dry out and fade asphalt shingles. Interlock panels are aluminum, which cannot rust, with an Alunar® finish covered by the 30 Year Alunar® Coating Warranty.

Cold

Very cold winters

The same valley has very cold winters. Water that gets into a cracked shingle or a cedar shake freezes and opens it further. Aluminum takes up no water, and Interlock panels lock on all four sides with the fasteners covered, with wind resistance warranted to 193 km/h (120 mph) installed to manufacturer specification.

Hail

Prairie hail

Insurance Bureau of Canada said in September 2025 that hail had caused about $6 billion of insured damage in Alberta over the previous five years. Interlock's Slate, Shake, Cedar Shingle and Mediterranean Tile aluminum panels carry a UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating, listed by Intertek under Delta Building Products. Hail can still dent the panels, and the material warranty does not cover hail larger than 38 mm (1.5 in).

Floods

The river, and the timing of a new roof

The Town of Drumheller lists eight floods that led to a state of local emergency, from 1915 to 2018, and runs a flood mitigation program to 2028 that includes berms and floodway buyouts. A roof plays no part in flood protection. If your property is affected by the program, tell us at the consultation so the timing of a new roof makes sense.

Permits

Permits in Drumheller

The Town of Drumheller requires building permits for most major construction, including renovations, alterations and repairs, and its Safety Codes office answers questions about what a project needs. We confirm with the Town what your roof requires before the crew starts. Hanna, Three Hills and the counties have their own rules.

Why homeowners here choose aluminum

One roof for heat, cold and hail. Our crews, our warranty.

Our crews

Installed by us

Interlock Metal Roofing (Alberta) Ltd. installs every roof with its own crews, from our office in Calgary. The company that prices your roof is the one that puts it on and answers for it.

Profiles

Slate on most roofs here

Slate is on most of the roofs in our job book for Drumheller, Hanna and Three Hills. Cedar Shingle, Shake, Mediterranean Tile and Standing Seam are made as well, in nine colours, all in Canada, for any roof with a slope of 3/12 or more.

Farms

The whole yard, one look

On a farm or acreage in Kneehill County the house, shop and barn can share one profile and colour. Each building is priced on its own line, so they can be done together or over a few seasons.

Tear-off

What comes off first

Cedar shakes and shingles, concrete tile and natural slate are always removed. One layer of asphalt can stay only if our inspection finds it suitable; two cannot. The written quote says which applies.

Warranties

Two warranties, in writing

Interlock Roofing, the manufacturer, gives the Guardian Lifetime Limited Material Warranty on the aluminum and its finish for as long as the original purchaser owns the home, transferable once, workmanship excluded. Our own 10 Year Limited Labour Warranty covers the installation.

Price

A fixed price, before you sign

We measure the roof, inspect the decking and attic where we can, and give you one price in writing, with anything the inspection finds already in it.

Recycled

Up to 95% recycled aluminum

And the last tear-off your house is likely to need.

Straight answers

Drumheller roofing questions, answered.

All of our answers ↗

Who installs Interlock metal roofs in Drumheller?

Interlock Metal Roofing (Alberta) Ltd., the certified Interlock® roofing contractor for Alberta, founded in 1999 and based in Calgary. Our own crews install every roof. The panels are made in Canada by Interlock Roofing at its plant in Delta, BC. We are BBB Accredited with an A+ rating, Baeumler Approved, and a 2026 GuildQuality GuildMaster Award winner.

Do I need a building permit for a new roof in Drumheller?

Check first. The Town of Drumheller requires building permits for most major construction, including renovations, alterations and repairs; its permit page does not mention re-roofing either way. We confirm with the Town's Safety Codes office what your roof needs before work starts. Hanna, Three Hills and the counties around them set their own requirements.

How does a metal roof handle hail here?

It is made for it, but it is not hail-proof. Interlock's Slate, Shake, Cedar Shingle and Mediterranean Tile panels carry a UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating, listed by Intertek under Delta Building Products. Very large hail can dent aluminum, the material warranty excludes hail larger than 38 mm (1.5 in), and storm damage is a matter for your home insurance. Ask your insurer how it treats an impact-rated roof.

Which communities does drumhellerroofing.com cover?

Drumheller and the communities within it, Three Hills, Trochu, Linden, Carbon, Acme and Swalwell, Morrin and Delia, Rosebud, and Hanna to the east. The rest of Southern Alberta is on calgarymetalroofing.com: the same company, the same Calgary office and the same warranties.

Have you installed many roofs in Drumheller?

Not many, and we would rather say so. Our job book has only a few roofs in Drumheller itself and more in Hanna and Three Hills; the map on this page shows each one. Every one was installed by our own crews, and a new roof here is quoted and installed the same way.

What does a metal roof cost in Drumheller?

Our cost page shows real contract prices from the Interlock® roofs we signed in the Calgary & Southern Alberta market in 2025 and 2026. Treat them as a rough guide only: prices vary from job to job with structural and other conditions, and an in-home roof consultation is required for an accurate price. The consultation and written quote are free.
